Overview
In 2019, the hospital ranked 18th nationally in the performance evaluation of tertiary public hospitals. Known for its clinical excellence and high-quality medical services, the hospital is also a leader in healthcare IT innovation in Asia—managing over 7 million annual outpatient visits with virtually no waiting lines.
The hospital operates across three campuses: Nanbaixiang, Gongyuanlu, and Longgang. Covering more than 764 mu (approximately 509,000 square meters), its facilities total nearly 740,000 square meters and include 3,800 approved beds. In 2007, construction began on a new 500-mu (approx. 333,000 square meters) campus in Nanbaixiang, Ouhai District, with an investment of 2.3 billion RMB. The campus opened in October 2012 and was originally the largest single-structure hospital complex in Asia.
In 2025, the hospital recorded 7.182 million outpatient and emergency visits, 304,000 inpatient admissions, and 139,000 surgical procedures. It offers a full spectrum of clinical services, with National Key Clinical Specialty Construction Projects in General Surgery and Wound Repair Medicine. The hospital is particularly recognized for its expertise in critical and emergency care, cardiovascular interventions, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, neurosurgery, reproductive medicine, respiratory diseases, and emergency medicine.
It is home to four national key disciplines and 45 provincial-level key clinical specialties and departments, and hosts one State Key Laboratory, one Key Laboratory of the National Health Commission, and 14 provincial-level research platforms, including key laboratories in Zhejiang Province.
The hospital currently employs 6,802 staff, including 908 senior professionals, 404 master’s supervisors, and 68 doctoral supervisors. Its education system is comprehensive and multi-tiered, covering undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and international medical education, as well as post-graduate training. Both Clinical Medicine and Medical Imaging have been designated as National First-Class Undergraduate Programs. The hospital trains 3,032 undergraduate students (including 20 international students), 1,545 full-time graduate students (including 48 international students), 284 on-the-job master’s students, 143 on-the-job doctoral candidates, and 1,258 trainees.
A pioneer in healthcare information technology, the hospital has received the Asian Hospital Management Gold Award. Its internally developed IT systems have been adopted by more than 20 hospitals across China. The hospital’s patient-centered service model has been featured in major national media outlets such as People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and China Central Television (CCTV).
The hospital maintains long-standing international collaborations with institutions such as Monash University and the University of Queensland in Australia, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital in South Korea, and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. In 2025, the hospital welcomed 290 international visitors across 59 delegations from 21 countries, including Thailand, Russia, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Poland, Belgium, Japan, Tanzania, Italy, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Croatia, Cuba, Germany, New Zealand, Zambia, and Hungary. Through these exchanges, the hospital has established broad international collaborations in medical research, education, and clinical practice.
