Delegation from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, Visits FAHWMU

On May 25, Associate Professor Taweap Sanghangthum from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, who also serves as Chief Medical Physicist of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Member of the Asian Federation for Medical Physics (AFOMP)，led a three-member delegation to The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (FAHWMU) for an exchange visit. Professor Jin Xiance, Director of the Library and President of the Journal Publishing House of Wenzhou Medical University, and Vice President of FAHWMU, along with heads and experts of clinical and medical technical departments including Radiation Oncology, Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine, as well as representatives from the International Exchange and Cooperation Office , attended the exchange session.

During the meeting, Professor Jin Xiance, on behalf of FAHWMU, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Chulalongkorn University and provided a comprehensive overview of the hospital’s development, disciplinary layout, progress in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, construction of scientific research platforms, and international cooperation.

The Thai delegation shared in detail the distinctive strengths and development experience of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in nuclear medicine diagnosis and therapy, medical physics applications, and teaching and research in radiation technology.

FAHWMU has maintained long-standing and productive exchanges with Chulalongkorn University, and has laid a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation, and formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in January of this year. This dedicated visit aimed to further advance and refine in-depth collaboration in nuclear medicine and medical physics on the basis of the existing cooperation consensus. Through intensive discussions, the two sides identified three key cooperation priorities : first, launching an inter-university student exchange and training program for Thai undergraduate students majoring in medical imaging technology; second, creating a pathway for outstanding professionals from our hospital to pursue PhD degrees at Chulalongkorn University; and third, based on Chulalongkorn University’s high recognition of our hospital’s clinical and research strengths in radiopharmaceutical therapy, planning to send their professionals to our hospital for systematic training in relevant technologies, thereby initiating regular academic exchanges and joint research.

Since a delegation from FAHWMU paid an official visit to Chulalongkorn University last August, the two sides have continued to conducted frequent mutual visits and in-depth communication, further consolidating mutual trust. From initial exploratory communications and the signing of the MOU to this latest visit focused on the precise implementation of cooperative pathways, the partnership between the two institutions in the medical field has continued to deepen and solidify.

Before and after the meeting, the Chulalongkorn University delegation toured key clinical and research areas of our hospital, including the South Lobby, Radiotherapy Center, Department of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology Wards, Day Chemotherapy Center, and Simulation Clinic. They also visited the History Museum in Wenzhou Medical University and the Biomedical Research Building. These visits provided an in-depth look at the operation and administration, clinical diagnosis and treatment, equipment configuration, and talent training models of our hospital’s nuclear medicine and medical physics departments. The delegation engaged in on-site discussions with frontline clinical and medical physics professionals. The Thai delegation spoke highly of our hospital’s advanced medical and research equipment, standardized disciplinary management systems, and robust clinical and medical physics capabilities, and expressed a strong desire to establish a regular exchange mechanism to conduct multi-level, substantive cooperation in specialized fields such as nuclear medicine and medical physics.

Chulalongkorn University, founded in 1917 by King Rama VI in memory of his father, King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V), is Thailand’s first higher education institution and the nation’s top comprehensive public university, often hailed as the "Tsinghua University of Thailand". In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, the university ranks 229th globally and has held the top position among Thai universities for 16 consecutive years. This dedicated visit has further solidified our hospital’s collaborative foundation with Thailand’s premier university in nuclear medicine and medical physics, detailing actionable measures for joint talent cultivation, academic exchanges, technical training, and collaborative research innovation. It also sets a positive example for deepening our hospital’s engagement with Southeast Asian countries in advanced medical discipline development, joint talent training, and specialized medical technology exchange.
