I. Overview

The Disciplines, Science & Technology Department was founded in January 1998, and was established by dividing the Medical and Education Department into the Medical Affairs Department and the Science & Education Department. In September 2007, it became the Department of Science and Education. In September 2008, the Postgraduate Management Department was separated from the Department of Science and Education and established as an independent department. In November 2011, the Postgraduate Education Division was separated from the Department of Science and Education and established as an independent department, and the Department of Science and Education became the Department of Research & Education, with the Library as a part. In May 2020, the Division of Science and Education was transformed into the Disciplines, Science & Technology Department due to the incorporation of discipline planning functions. At present, there are 16 members in the Department, with one senior title, two associate titles, four intermediate titles, two doctorates and 11 master's degrees.

The Disciplines, Science & Technology Department upholds the strategic decision of "Discipline Planning, Science & Technology Leading", and takes the principle of "Overall planning, strategic positioning, levels differentiation, and key promotion", with scientific research innovation as its working concept. Mainly responsible for the construction and management of the hospital's disciplines, scientific research planning, declaration of project results, clinical research audit and management, patent declaration and transformation of results and academic exchanges at home and abroad.

II. Scientific Research Initiatives

Sound scientific research management mechanism to ensure the development of scientific research innovation. The Disciplines, Science & Technology Department has been continuously improving the original rules and regulations on scientific research management, formed a compilation of rules and regulations covering discipline construction, scientific research projects and results declaration, and revised and supplemented some of the rules and regulations according to the policy changes of the higher authorities and the development needs of the hospital to further improve the scientific research management mechanism. At the same time, we have established a science and education management system and used a modern information management system to strengthen the whole process management of scientific research projects, which has given a strong impetus to the completion rate of scientific research in our hospital.

Formulation of discipline construction plans to facilitate the vigorous development of disciplines.In addition to the idea of "consolidating advantageous disciplines and developing special disciplines", we have formulated a discipline construction plan, implemented a plan to upgrade traditional disciplines, a plan to concentrate innovative disciplines and a plan to build up advantageous disciplines, optimized the layout of discipline structure and resource allocation, strived to build up special advantageous disciplines, and promoted the development of disciplines with a point. Through the website and paper media, the latest progress and outstanding research achievements of the discipline are publicized and reported in a timely manner to enhance the influence of the discipline.
Promote the construction of scientific research platforms and improve the basic conditions for scientific research. On the basis of strengthening the construction of existing research platforms, we will implement a public platform construction plan, a specialist platform cultivation plan and a key platform breakthrough plan in accordance with the principle of "complementarity and sharing", optimize laboratory technology and equipment, improve research support conditions, incubate and cultivate specialist platforms, improve the functional layout of public platforms and specialist laboratories, strengthen clinical translation and the ability to integrate medical-industrial crossover, and actively promote the construction of high-level medical platforms.

Establish a talent funding system to promote the collaborative development of talents. Implementing the strategy of "flexible management of talents", integrating the resources and advantages of disciplines at home and abroad, introducing external experts; strengthening the collaboration between the university and the hospital, introducing double-appointed professors from University of Pharmacy, accelerating the deep integration of basic and clinical research; establishing a translational research team with the integration of full-time and part-time researchers, strengthening the research foundation of the department and improving the level of clinical research; launching various incubation programs within the hospital, such as doctoral start-up funding, young talents and incubation projects, and implementing policies to favor young researchers, so as to consolidate the infrastructure of the research echelon.

Strengthen the construction of the management team and enhance the capacity of scientific research services. Absorb high quality research management personnel as practitioners and service providers of research management. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, the Department of Discipline Planning and Science & Technology was awarded three national-level projects, one provincial-ministerial-level project and four departmental-level projects, and published 90 papers, including 84 SCI papers, three Chinese papers, one national paper and two provincial and departmental papers. At the same time, we actively implement the concept of "to run for once", constantly innovate and improve the workflow, and promote the transformation of "scientific research management" to "scientific research service".

III. Honors

From 2008 to 2011, Wenzhou Medical University was awarded the "Award for Excellence in Discipline Construction and Scientific Research of Secondary Schools" for four consecutive years, and in 2009, and was awarded by the Health Bureau of Zhejiang Province the title of "Advanced Collective of Medical and Health Science and Education Work of Zhejiang Province". In 2012, for its exemplary role in the management of continuing education during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, our hospital was awarded the title of "Advanced Collective for Continuing Medical Education" by Zhejiang Province, the only medical unit in Wenzhou to receive this award.
