Delegation from Monash University, Australia Visited FAHWMU


On May 15th, a group of six experts from the Biomedical Discovery Institute of Monash University in Australia visited the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (FAHWMU). The delegation included John Carroll, Director of the Biomedical Discovery Institute, Monash University, Nellie Georgiou-Karistianis, Vice President of Monash University, Timothy Stephens, Christopher Thompson, Qu Yue, and Song Jiangning . Xue Xiangyang, Dean of the School of Basic Medicine of Wenzhou Medical University, Wang Meihao, Vice Dean of FAHWMU, Huang Xiaoying, Vice Dean of FAHWMU, Huang Xuefeng, Director of the Reproductive Medicine Center of FAHWMU, and staff from relevant departments such as the Cooperation & Communication Dept. of FAHWMU attended the reception. On behalf of the hospital, Vice President Wang Meihao warmly welcomed the Australian experts and gave a brief Introduction of the hospital. John Carroll introduced Monash University and the Biomedical Discovery Institute. The two sides also discussed planned scientific research cooperation and talent training projects.
The Australian delegation also visited the Medical Laboratory Center and Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery. During the visiting, both sides exchanged ideas on medical technology, platform construction, biological samples, and clinical translational research. In addition, John Carroll and Huang Xuefeng had in-depth discussions on reproductive medicine and mitochondrial diseases.
On May 16th, Dr. Qu Yue , an Infectious Disease Researcher and Executive Director of the Wenzhou Medical University-Monash University Joint Biomedical Research Institute, gave a lecture on "Clinical Background, Translational Research, and Personal International Vision" for clinical doctors, researchers, and graduate students. As a Wenzhou Medical University alumnus, Dr. Qu Yue vividly shared his experiences and insights on his academic studies, scientific research, and career development. His speech was inspiring and greatly benefited the audience.
Both parties expressed their willingness to create a more favorable conditions for further cooperation, actively promote the establishment of the Wenzhou Medical University-Monash University Joint Biomedical Research Institute, accelerate the integration of scientific research projects and talents in fields such as tumor, infections, and reproduction, and jointly promote discipline construction. The success of this exchange visit has also provide broader horizons for international exchanges and cooperation at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University.
